KNOW YOUR MATERIAL!!
   The Lighting Unit
Technical Theater II students are about to begin an intense unit on lighting in the live theater. This unit of study will take three weeks to complete. Students will first learn the science behind light and color. Then we will apply these concepts to the prescenium stage environment. Students will review the various lighting instruments that were introduced in Tech I, but will now disect them to learn all of the parts. Students will learn advanced color concepts for the theater, proper light instrument rigging, and difficult but cool effects that can be achieved on the lightboard. The students will apply what is learned by analyzing the fall play script, designing and programming the lighting plot, hanging and geling appropriate lighting instruments, and running the lights for the Fall play production in November.
